Registration is open for Pikes Peak. I just took a walk through the projected workshops. I didn't think there would be any I'd want but I was wrong. Looks like a good variety of subjects. I'll probably put Joshua down as the attendee with me as his aide. He and I will work out who gets to see what. That way, I get a slight discount on my cost because I can eat Joshua's food. I'm not sure if I want to do the prequel. It doesn't jump out at me this year. I'll probably try to register this week. Joshua will have a full package and I'd like to run it past an agent to see if we've got every thing it needs. I will have book 4 out and a hopefully a rough draft on book 3 of the Cosmic Chronicles.

I saw registration had opened but haven't looked at the sessions yet. I definitely want to go. I need to visit with Sydney and see if she wants to do it again this year. Last year we talked about getting a room this year for convenience. We'll see.

I registered for the conference this evening. I wanted to get the expense in 2017 for tax purposes. I've needed a new laptop for a year now and broke down this evening and ordered one, also to get the expense in 2017. Sydney hasn''t decided if she's going so I'll add her later if she decides to go.

I need to sign up too. I'll probably do it later today when Joshua can see me do it. I don't think I'll take the prequel class this year unless I see something added but the ones I saw before weren't pertinent to anything I needed, or Josh. I'm still paying off credit card from last year. Too many nights in a hotel racked it up for me. I need to figure out a bookkeeping system that will be more efficient than anything I've done in the past. I don't even know what deductions I can take or what kind of receipts I need to keep. I could use a class in that. Joshua is so excited about the conference.

Keep EVERY receipt related to your writing/art activities. This includes meals (which you can write off half) and hotel rooms. And track your mileage. All those miles driving from Illinois to PPWC are business expenses you can write off. That being said, the IRS will want to see a serious attempt to create revenue, so you NEED to get a book published again this year. How's that for motivation?

It helps and I have a book that I can get out fairly fast. I need to stop waiting for my studio and just revise. My problem with that is I'm living in chaos because so much of the stuff around me is stuff that will go in the studio. I don't do well in crowded conditions. But saving receipts and figuring mileage is something I need to just do. I'm wondering if I get a container like people use to do coupons might do to stick in my purse and put receipts in so I don't lose them before I get home. I really do need to put this into my goals.

actually, if things go well, I'll have two books out this year and working on a third. Not counting Josbua's book etc. I wonder if he goes under OurHome Studio or if he goes on his own tax report.

Does Josh file his own taxes? Or has he always been on yours. You'll need to ask your tax accountant as he generates income the best way to handle this. My guess is as long as you are able to claim him, then overall that will be your best route. But that's just a guess without the details.
I use a file folder. I put all my writing related receipts into it. But I also track all of my personal and business expenses in Quickbooks, plus I have a spreadsheet to track mileage. A shoebox or any container that helps your remember to put your receipts in one place is helpful. The trick is to find what works for you and make it a habit. You're throwing away money to the government if you don't.

I can't decide if I want to rent a room for the conference. Staying at the hotel could provide networking opportunities that I won't get by staying with Jack and Rhonda. But I'm not real social, so I wonder if I'll take advantage of it.
How has your experience staying there been?

I love staying there but staying in a hotel is a way for me to be off the clock. For some reason, when I'm at a hotel, I relax and feel like the world is leaving me alone for awhile. I was thinking that this year, I should spend more time down stairs and not holed up in the room. I haven't taken advantage of the networking available either. This year, I want Joshua to get some time but I also have to be careful to give him enough out of his wheelchair time so he doesn't get too physically exhausted. I think I'm checking in on Thursday and then going to Rhonda's on Sunday. I didn't see anything on the Thursday prequel that appealed to me this year. Before, I always checked in on Wed. I did see quite a few workshops that I wanted to sit in on. Joshua and I will probably have to take turns choosing so we each get something.

I'll drive up on Thursday and probably stay with Rhonda. I would like to stay at the hotel and get to know some people better, but I'm afraid I won't do it. I don't want to hang out in my room even though that will be in inclination.

I've decided to stay in the hotel. Is there value in staying Thursday night? I don't know whether to stay at Jack and Rhonda's or the hotel on Thursday night.

I usually sign in the night before simply because I want to be up early and ready for the registration. The last couple of times I went, I registered for the Early Bird panels on Thursday but I didn't see anything that appealed to me this year. I'll be checking in Thursday and checking out Sunday morning when I'll go over to Rhonda's.

Too fast. I'm beginning to worry that I won't get everything done. Plus, I have an art show on May 5th. I'll have to make sure my pieces are ready for it before I leave. That runs me really short.
