Have you taken Holly's How to revise your novel class? I'm thinking about taking it. I know I need to keep learning and this sounds like a good class. It's a commitment of time and of money, and since I'm not working at the moment I want to make sure I invest wisely. Or is there another class that might be better at this point? Like the how to think sideways?

For me, the class that changed how I write was How to Think Sideways. How to Think Sideways and How to Revise your Novel are her biggest courses. They are geared for six months to a year to do. They are expensive but she has payment plans for everybody.
I will be honest. I didn't make it all the way through Revise Your Novel. It drove me crazy although I learned a lot about what to watch for and elements of a good novel. For Marti, it was her favorite course. She loved all the specific information about what to do and how to do it. For me, it drove me crazy. I am a right brain writer. I do things intuitively. For me to slow down and tear apart my work is mind-boggling boring. I didn't have the patience for it. That said, if you are left brained and you like specific how-to information it might be right up your alley.
I loved How to Think Sideways and I don't know when she is going to open that class again. I went into it convinced that I had trouble with my muse. Trouble with my creative brain. I found out that my left brain, the logical side is that part the lets me down. HTTS is the class that taught me how to bridge the two sides. To become functional.
How to Revise your Novel will give you a lot. Whether its what you need, I don't know.
I read your Wanderer story and don't know if you saw my response. What I saw was a tendency to tell a story rather than show a story. I think once you figure out the difference your work is going to surge upward.
If you want discussion on the courses, or on your work specifically, I'm willing to put some time in on this topic.

I did see your comments. Thanks! At least I now know what is wrong. And it was helpful that everyone agreed I should write it from the first person POV.
I feel like there is still so much I need to learn and improve on it's hard to decide what to do. Ideally I wish I had someone to maybe read a little of my writings and give me direction. I don't need someone to hold my hand, just someone to make sure every now and then I stay on the path. I guess I lack the confidence that I'm doing the things I need to in order to improve. I keep writing, which I know helps, but there's still so much more.
If nothing else, it's great to have this forum to vent my concerns. I'm going to do some thinking about the class. I need to decide if it's what I need or not. And if not, then I need to figure out what it is I do need.

Talk to Kathy. She is so bored and she's trying to find things to keep herself occupied. I'm going to set her up with a small laptop. Maybe you can talk her into being a beta reader.

I'll do that! I may have some projects with Mom's writings she could help me with if she was interested.
