I'm using this site to post ideas as they come to me so I don't lose them. I hate digging for stuff.
Anyway, I was posting articles on the writing board. I want to put my poetry over there because I thought if I could see what I've written, and how much there actually is, maybe I could find a way to use the poetry for something.
But then I posted an article about hunting and dogs and I thought, why not put my articles over here too, or somewhere on my computer, so I can see it as a whole. I probably have 30+ articles written. None of them very long but Chicken Soup for the Soul began as short articles and snippets of life. I could do my own compilation and post it as slice of life. I have been compared to Erma Bombeck. Why not gather together my humor and heart and put it out as a book?
It wouldn't take as long as a novel to pull together. I may have to run with this idea. It excites me.

I think that's a great idea! Last week I looked at my list of newspaper articles and I hadn't realized it at the time but I wrote my fiftieth column on Dec 31 last year. I had the thought of putting the first fifty together into a book. I don't think I'll do it until I have something else out first, though. But it's on my list. I'm sure it won't be a big seller, but it could get a few people to my website that might not otherwise go, and could get me a little extra free press by the newspaper.
Is it called an anthology or a collection? I thought Anthology was a collection of writings from different authors? I'm still learning these terms.
I know Mom has a number of poems and short stories, though I don't know how many at this point. I'ts on my list to go through her writings and make a list of what I have so I'll know. I think I may be able to get one book of short stories and one of poems, but I'll have to see how they best go together once I know what I have.

I don't know what its called. Collection might work. I was running with an idea and hadn't completely thought it through. A friend of mine told me about an author, Lewis Grizzard, who puts out books in a similar format. I'll have to look him up and download a sample.
I really thank you for being on here. I used to brainstorm with Marti and I've really missed her. I need somebody to talk to and get feedback. It helps me figure out if I've got a good idea or simply my mind exploding, which it does on a fairly regular basis.

I'm glad to have you to converse with too! Your ideas and the volume of posts are inspiring. I will say that you've put so much stuff on here that it will take me a while to get to it all, so if you ever post something you definitely want a response to or a conversation you want to have let me know. Otherwise, I might miss it amongst everything else.

Will do. Right now, I'm putting stuff on here for me, mostly. I do much better when I actually commit goals and ideas to paper. Somehow, it gives them life for me. I will mark posts that I need a response to with URGENT!!!

I have a spreadsheet that keeps my stories straight. Otherwise I think I could lose them. I think using URGENT's a great idea. I'll read through the other stuff as I have time.
