Our family is hosting next year's Scales-Gilliam reunion. I was sitting on the couch a few days ago and 'Victor' (my writing and creative muse) whispered in my mind, I think we should do an interactive mystery on Friday evening. Just like I always do, I got excited over a new idea. So I got hold of Rhonda knowing she would either talk me down, or join the romp. She said we should go for it so here is what I'm thinking.
1. Little Bill and I meet on here once a week. Its to keep us accountable on our writing goals, and brainstorm ideas and give and get encouragement. I thought I'd create a thread just for the interactive mystery. Anybody who wants in on the planning, writing, and ideas on how to make it work can be invited on here. This is a private site and the only people who should be able to read it are the ones we give access to.
2. I think getting some of the younger kids parts would be a great way to introduce the younger kid into how fun the reunions can be. I know, for a fact, that Lily is a gifted actress and I'm pretty sure several of the others are, too.
3. Joshua wants in. He wants a part. He's super excited about it. He should have his new chair in a few weeks. This means he'll be back on his tobii. If we assign him a character and program his computer all it would take would be for him to know how to time his responses. I think it would be especially funny to give him a part that has some real zingers.
4. we have family mysteries in our background. Where did Grandpa Bill disappear to? Why did Isaac Middleton and his wife live across the street from each other and Judith finally move to the state of Washington. He was the prisoner in Andersonville prison. I would bet money he had PTSD. At the very least, it would bring that period in history alive to think of our ancestor living it.
5. I thought maybe a seance, or some type of spirit talking would bring certain family members forward. I keep hearing Grandma Mary Martha offering to feed people and nobody wanting to eat her food because we always heard she kept a stew pot on the stove all the time and through food in as she got it. I think this might have included road kill. It's just a thought.
Ideas and brainstorming need to happen. I think there should be a narrator to hold the story together and keep it moving at a good pace. I'm thinking we should have incidental character cards in a bowl and whoever wants to join in can draw a card and follow the instructions.
I'm going to send out invitations to the siblings. If you know others who want to get in on the planning of this, send me or Little Bill the email address and we can get them in.
