The times has come when Pikes Peak Writers begins to let us know about the conference in April. I was trying to decide if I wanted to go again. I've done so much traveling but it occurred to me that its not just me this time. I have Joshua to think about. He has a lot of projects coming up and they deserve an agent. Also, Tess Gerriston is the keynote for writers and David Maas is the keynote for publishing. I also see that David Maas is offering a 6 hour session. I think it would be worth my while to get into that so I'm going to be putting in my reservation as soon as possible.
Whether it will play out and I'll get to do it, I'll decide that closer to April. but I think I'm going to grab a place for Josh and me as soon as possible so I can get a place. And then I'll worry about getting there later.
Carol
P.S. I wanted to let you know that you can go to the Pikes Peaks Writers site and join so you get the email updates. It used to be free and I think it still is. Its a good resource to have and if I remember right it's not genre related but writing related. It covers all genres etc.

And done. I registered Joshua and me for the 2017 Pikes Peak Writers Conference. It will be the first time Joshua will attend as a writer and not as a guest. I signed him up with a Query pitch to an agent. I want him to experience what it is. And I want to run his picture book ideas past an actual agent in a face to face meeting. There is a good chance he will have an agent sooner than that but I'm never one to pass by doors. I'm casting out as much bait as I can and I'm going to be watching the bobbers. Anything that moves I'll try to set a hook on.
I signed us both up for Donald Maas's Thursday Prequel class. I want to get as close to Maas as I can manage. Joshua is memorable and it should put us into his sphere a little bit. Whether that will help in the future, who knows. Conferences are about networking. His class is an all day class about: The Emotional Craft of Fiction: How to Tell the Story Beneath the Surface Its limited and I have no idea if we'll get in but if we don't, there is a workshop on Scrivener that I'd love to take. And I'm sure I'll find something that would be beneficial to learn.
Since this is predominantly for JOshua, I'll probably pick workshops that will benefit him the most. Whatever happens, it will be an interesting experience for both of us.
I'll be at Marilyn's on Friday. And I'll head back home on Monday. It's going to be a flying trip but if things go right, Josh and I will be back in Kansas in Dec. for a week or so before we head south to Texas.

That's awesome! I'll go check this out. I would love to attend a conference, but I'll probably not go to one unless I go with someone I know. This one is even double great because you get to see Rhonda, too.
The ad said something about payment plans to I will look into it. Obviously, that will be my biggest challenge at this point.
This would be a blast to go with you guys. I'll see what I can do.

Sharon was interested too. I will probably grab a room at the Mariott but if funds are a problem I know Rhonda would be happy to put you and Sharon up for the weekend. I'm betting Sharon will go even if its just for part of it. I'll try to call her and see if I can catch her.

I talked to my boss today and he thinks it will work out for me to take the days off for the conference. He's working on the audit schedule and will let me know in a few days. I think I'll talk to Sydney about it this weekend and see if it's something she might be interested in.
Are you definitely doing the pre-conference on Thursday? It seems like a good deal financially at $90, I think it was.

Yes, I'm signed up for Thursday. I wanted to see what Donald Maas had to say. If I'm lucky enough to get into it. Kathy is going with us as Joshua's aide. I'll probably land at the hotel on Wed. night. I have my reservation already in but they didn't email me my confirmation info so I'll have to call them and make sure its set up the way I want it. I have no idea if any of the others will land at Rhonda's. It might turn out to be a really fun weekend. I know Kathy will want to hit Fargos.

I won't fight Kathy on going to Fargo's!!!
I know Blake would want to do Fargo's too. I'm not sure what to do with him. Would there be anything for him to do there? I didn't see anything mentioned in the conference about kids programs.

I talked to Sharon this evening. She said she was going to call you and Rhonda tomorrow about the conference. She plans on going. I told her I would stay either at the hotel or at Rhonda's as long as Rhonda wasn't too far from the conference. Sounds like she's definitely in.

I couldn't find a schedule for the conference on their website. Do you know what time it starts and ends each day? Do you know how far Rhonda's house is?

That's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
Rhonda said she's about 15 minutes away from the Mariott.
I don't remember if I told you, but I talked to Sharon the other day and she said she had a conference or banquet or something that weekend and wasn't going to be able to go.

I got an appointment to have my query letter evaluated. My delima - I'll have my mystery story finished but it still needs a lot of work! My only other option would be to read a querty letter for Vetrix or for it's sequal, which although may need some work is in much better shape that the mystery. Have you ever done the query letter session?
