Grabbed this from the Sisters in Crime newsletter that I get every month:
We use the industry scale of euphemisms for advances:
"nice deal" $1 - $49,000
"very nice deal" $50,000 - $99,000
"good deal" $100,000 - $250,000
"significant deal" $251,000 - $499,000
"major deal" $500,000 and up

Me, too. My goal is to make $20,000 a year. That would be a nice addition to our family budget. I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to earn before SS gets pissy. But I'd rather not goof up my SS check unless I could make significantly more. its not worth it to me. I'd actually like 1000 a month so make the 20,000 24,000. I would use it for hiring help for Josh. He needs to rely on people other than me. And I need less demands on me physically as I age. And I'm aging way too fast.
In my dream world, I dream of a major deal that would make Josh's life more secure after I'm gone. I don't expect whoever takes over as guardian to do it without pay. I do it out of love and would never dream of taking from him but I want who ever takes over to be able to hire help so they aren't as tied down as I have been. I'm trusting God on that one. The one thing I don't want is Josh sitting in a nursing home. I'll haunt somebody if that happens. I want him maintained in his own home, surrounded by family that loves him.
Another dream of mine, that I will most likely never see, is to have some of my work on the big screen. I think the Cosmic series would be a great film. I think Lucky Donovan could be a great character. I think I will probably not live long enough to see that but I can dream about it.

Does what you make affect the SS you receive? I know the higher your income the more your SS will be subject to taxes. I think your goals are noble and you're on the right path. You know, we have a big enough family Josh should never need to live with non-family. My first goal is to get published, which I plan to make happen on my own in a few weeks. My second goal would be to get to the $10,000-$20,000 annual range. This would allow me to work at a less demanding job that would allow me more time to write. My next would be to get to the point I could support myself without having a primary job. Finally, I want to build an income stream that will support me in retirement and allow me to leave something for my kids and grandkids. A "very nice deal" would allow me to skip right to the part I was supporting myself, but I'm not going to hold my breath.  |
