I went down to the basement and found an old Best of the Magazine Markets for Writers 2014 so I could see who published it.

I'm leery of any company wanting money from me. But I might shell out for the new best of Magazine Markets. I would still like to send out queries for article ideas. In my original business plan, probably ten years ago, I wanted to have 20 non-fiction queries circulating at all times. I figured with 20 ideas one of them would hit. And since then, I've found out about non-competing markets to make one idea stretch to multiple markets by writing them from a different slant to fit each market.
I like holding a book in my hand and leafing through the markets because its impossible to know every magazine out there. I mark the pages with sticky tabs. I choose markets by 1. does it pay? 2. Can I write something to fit their market? 3. What rights am I selling? (I prefer to get my copyright back after a reasonable length of time.)
I'm not interested in any of their classes. Holly's online classes are far superior to anything I've gotten elsewhere and priced a heck of a lot better. I took a two year course from Writer's Digest. It was a xmas present to myself. i enjoyed the feedback but it didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know.
For me, Holly's classes are top notch as to information and technique but the forums is where I get the most encouragement. Being in contact with other people going after the dream. The energy that creates helps keep me motivated.
